About CUScore
A free, independent directory of America's federally insured credit unions — powered by NCUA public data.
Who We Are
CUScore is an independent, free-to-use directory of federally insured credit unions in the United States. We are not a credit union, bank, or financial institution. We are not affiliated with the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), any individual credit union, or any banking trade group.
Our mission is simple: help American consumers find, understand, and compare credit unions using publicly available government data. We believe that good financial decisions start with good information, and that information should be free and accessible.
The directory covers 4,374 federally insured credit unions as of Q4 2025. Each institution's profile includes key financial metrics from the NCUA Call Report, branch and ATM location data, our proprietary health score, and national and state rankings.
Our Data Sources
All financial data displayed on CUScore is sourced exclusively from the NCUA Quarterly Call Report, officially known as the Credit Union Profile and Financial Performance Report (NCUA Form 5300). This is a mandatory quarterly filing submitted by every federally insured credit union to the NCUA. The data is publicly available at ncua.gov.
| Data Field | Source |
|---|---|
| Total assets, members, loans, net worth | NCUA Call Report (Form 5300), quarterly |
| Net worth ratio, delinquency rate, loan-to-share ratio | Calculated from NCUA Call Report raw fields |
| Branch and ATM locations | NCUA Credit Union Branch Information, quarterly |
| Charter number, year opened, membership type | NCUA Credit Union Profile data |
| Health score (A+–F letter grade) | Proprietary CUScore calculation (see Methodology) |
The NCUA's call report data contains hundreds of data fields for each institution. We use a curated subset of these fields — those most relevant to consumers evaluating a credit union's size, accessibility, and financial strength.
Health Score Methodology
Our Health Score (A+ to F) is a proprietary composite rating that summarizes a credit union's financial condition into a single letter grade. It is intended as a quick reference, not a definitive assessment. The score is calculated from NCUA Call Report data using the following primary inputs:
- Net Worth Ratio — the primary driver. NCUA's Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) framework classifies credit unions as well capitalized (≥ 7%), adequately capitalized (6–7%), undercapitalized (4–6%), significantly undercapitalized (3–4%), or critically undercapitalized (< 2%).
- Delinquency Rate — the percentage of loans 60+ days past due. High delinquency rates pressure earnings and erode capital over time.
- Net Income — whether the credit union generated a surplus or loss in the most recent quarter. Sustained losses reduce net worth.
- Loan-to-Share Ratio — a secondary factor that indicates liquidity risk when extremely high.
The grade thresholds are defined as follows:
| Grade | Label | Primary Criteria |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | Excellent | Net worth ratio ≥ 10%, delinquency rate < 1%, positive net income, loan-to-share ratio 60–85%. |
| A | Very Good | Net worth ratio ≥ 9%, delinquency rate < 1.5%, positive net income. |
| B+ | Good | Net worth ratio ≥ 8%, delinquency rate < 2%, near-positive net income. |
| B | Fair | Net worth ratio ≥ 7% (well-capitalized threshold), acceptable delinquency. |
| C | Adequate | Net worth ratio 6–7% (adequately capitalized), elevated delinquency or negative net income. |
| D | Poor | Net worth ratio 4–6% (undercapitalized under NCUA PCA rules), high delinquency. |
| F | At Risk | Net worth ratio below 4% (significantly or critically undercapitalized), severe financial stress indicators. |
Important caveat: The Health Score is a simplified, rules-based model based on four publicly available metrics. It does not replicate the NCUA's proprietary CAMELS examination rating, which is confidential and incorporates qualitative assessments of management quality, IT systems, compliance, and other factors not visible in public data. A credit union's Health Score should not be used as a sole basis for financial decisions.
Data Update Frequency
The NCUA publishes Call Report data quarterly, typically 60–90 days after the end of each calendar quarter. CUScore updates its database following each NCUA data release. The current data reflects the Q4 2025 Call Report cycle (data as of December 31, 2025), published in early 2026.
The next scheduled update will reflect Q1 2026 data, expected to be released by the NCUA in late Q2 2026. Between NCUA updates, all financial metrics on this site remain static. Real-time financial data for individual credit unions is not available through this directory.
Note: Financial data displayed on this site is always as of the most recent NCUA quarterly cycle. Individual credit union financial conditions may have changed since the last data release. For the most current information, visit the credit union's official website or NCUA.gov.
