Data Sources & Methodology

How we collect, process, and present credit union data

Primary Data Source

NCUA Quarterly Call Report

All credit union financial data on CUScore comes directly from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Quarterly Call Report. The NCUA is the independent federal agency that charters and supervises all federally insured credit unions in the United States.

Every federally insured credit union is required by law to file a quarterly Call Report (NCUA Form 5300) with the NCUA. These reports contain detailed financial data including total assets, loans, shares and deposits, net worth, and membership figures. The data is publicly available and updated quarterly.

Current period: Q4 2025 (December 31, 2025)
Credit unions covered: 4,374
Update frequency: Quarterly

NCUA Data Files Used

FOICU.txt

FS220.txt

Financial Statement — total assets, loans outstanding, shares and deposits, member count, delinquent loans, net income, and other balance sheet items.

FS220A.txt

ATM Locations.txt

ATM location data for credit unions that report ATM placements to the NCUA.

Health Score Methodology

CUScore's health score is a letter grade (A+ through F) calculated from two publicly reported financial metrics: the net worth ratio and the delinquency rate. These are the same metrics the NCUA uses to assess credit union capital adequacy and asset quality.

GradeNet Worth RatioDelinquency Rate
A+≥ 10%< 1%
A≥ 8%< 1.5%
B+≥ 7%< 2%
B≥ 6%< 3%
C≥ 5%< 4%
D≥ 4%< 5%
F< 4%≥ 5%

Important Disclaimer

Health scores are CUScore's own calculation based on publicly available NCUA data and are provided for informational and educational purposes only. They do not represent an official NCUA rating or assessment. All deposits at federally insured credit unions are protected up to $250,000 per depositor, regardless of health score.

Data Accuracy & Limitations

We process NCUA data as-is, without modification. Financial figures reflect what each credit union reported on its quarterly Call Report. While the NCUA performs validation checks, occasional reporting errors may exist in the source data.

CUScore does not verify individual data points independently. For the most authoritative and up-to-date information about any specific credit union, we recommend visiting NCUA.gov or contacting the credit union directly.

Branch location data comes from the NCUA branch information file but does not include geographic coordinates. As a result, branch maps are not currently available.
